It’s already time to checkout from the Hotel and head back home. The weather forecast didn’t look so good for the afternoon, so we hurry to visit additional places on the way back.

We first visited the Hexenloch Mill (GermanHexenlochmühle)

It is the only mill in the Black Forest with two water wheels. In 1825, the part with the smaller water wheel was built as a nail smithy. Later, the part with the larger water wheel was built as a sawmill. Eventually the nail smithy was turned into a workshop for the clockmaking works

A cuckoo clock is, typically, a pendulum clock that strikes the hours with a sound like a common cuckoo call and has an automated cuckoo bird that moves with each note. Some move their wings and open and close their beaks while leaning forwards, whereas others have only the bird’s body leaning forward.

After a quick visit of the mills, we continued our way. The numerous curves on this road made the kid sick which prompted a few stops. We ended up splitting the group; each one headed in a different direction.
We opted to visit the summit of Kandel mountain and eat at the Restaurant up there. At 1241 meters, it is one of the highest submit in the Black Forest and it is only 25km away from Freiburg.

After eating a few sausages and a potato salad, we got back on the road to finally reach the Autobahn that confortably brought us home at over 140kmh. No speed limit there. 😎
