We rented an appartment in Waldau at the Sonne Post for 3 nights. It is located in the Black Forest, south-east of Germany; west of Freiburg and just north of Titisee at about 900 meters altitude.

The houses are built on hill side and share a similar architecture as those in Swiss Alps. The Landscape however is quite different. The hills are rounded and coverred with trees.

After the first night in the region, we opted to visit Titisee with the grand parents.

We began with a boat tour around the lake which was surprinsly calm at the time. The Hochschwarzwald card (tourist card) given to us by the Hotel allowed us to do it for free.

While looking at the choice of free activities we could get with that tourist card, I noticed a 3 hours free e-bike rental. πŸ‘ The rental place was only 2 blocks away and they had some e-bikes still available. The deals was only applicable on the city bike, not the mountain bikes. πŸ™„

Not a problem. Lets see where it can brings me. 😜

To get up there, a normal person would have follow the small road that is going around the mountain, but I came accross a trail going straight up the face of the mountain, it appeared to be paved so I opted for that route. However, after the first 50 meters, the rest of the trail was a mix of dirt, loose gravel, rocks and roots, it became a nice challenge and a good test for the capacity of the bike. Its large road tire handled it surprinsingly well. Hikers on the trail were probably surprised to see a guy on an heavy city bike going up those trails.

The view on Titisee was amazing from up there and it was totally worth the “effort”.

On the way down, I explored other trails.

That Single tracks was fun!

I returned the bike after only 1h30. There was still mud on the tires but the guy didn’t even notice. 🀐

Later in the evening , additional family members joined us for dinner time at the Sonne Post Hotel’s Restaurant. Since we were 6 adults and 3 kids, we were offered a private dinning room havings its own private terrasse with a view.

The dinner was delicious.
